The Thanksgiving Turducken Effect & Hiring the Right People

Thanksgiving traditions are as varied and distinct as the families and individuals celebrating the holiday. We love how time-honored aspects are constantly intermingled with new and interesting elements, making each year a unique celebration. So while we’re still working on an ECLARO balloon for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, there are Thanksgiving traditions that deserve a moment in the spotlight today...

Consider turducken. And football. And hiring the Right People. Maybe not in that order, of course.

Last Thanksgiving Day, in honor of the late, great football coach and announcer John Madden, all three NFL games featured a special coin for the coinflip that featured Madden’s silhouette on the “heads” side and…wait for it…a Thanksgiving turducken as “tails.” (This is a thing. We’re not making it up, although we do wish we’d come up with the idea.)

For the uninitiated, turducken is a dish consisting of turkey stuffed with deboned duck that’s been stuffed with deboned chicken. Layer upon layer upon layer of culinary creativity. While the origin story remains a bit murky (the name itself was trademarked by legendary Louisiana chef Paul Prudhomme in 1985), the creative approach to taking a holiday meal to the next level cannot be denied. Madden was such a fan of the dish that he famously talked up the treat during Thanksgiving Day NFL games for years, and actually ate his first one on-air during the New Orleans Saints hosted the St. Louis Rams at the Superdome in Louisiana on December 1, 1996.
